[9 May 2007] Europe Day celebrations

For five years now the European Movement International, in association with its National Councils and International Member Organisations across Europe, have organised the celebrations of the Europe Day - 9th of May, thanks to a wide range of activities which involve and address millions of people across the continent. Year after year, the enthusiasm of the participating organisations (which include also local and National organisations cooperating and supporting the EMI National Councils) and the successful formula adopted have considerably increased the visibility of the European values within and outside the EU.  The number of participating countries has also increased, as well as the number of organisations involved at both local and national level.

In 2007, activities will be organised by the partners with events in over 30 countries in co-operation with their local colleagues. Like every other year, the range of activities will vary from country to country in order to have a maximum, specific impact on the all groups of civil society in those countries. The traditional target groups will remain the general public but a special focus will be given to addressing the youth as in 2006.

Gender Equality Campaign – Pariteia Project

[November 2005 – January 2007] Pariteia – Promoting Gender Equality in European Active Citizenship

This campaign aims to establish a European citizenship based on the active participation of women and men in all social, political and professional activities, in order to create the conditions for positive changes within personal and collective culture. There are still significant differences in Europe from country to country, concerning the quality of the economic, social and civil life of women and active citizenship. It is therefore essential to develop a strategy aimed at involving men in the promotion of equal opportunities and at encouraging them to actively participate in gender issues. Five actions are foreseen, the details of which can be seen in the Project Proposal below.
