Pat Cox: Belgium ratifies - Constitution is back on the table
 The Flemish parliament has ratified the European Constitution, which adds Belgium to the list of currently 14 countries that have finished the ratification of the Constitution.
»By ratifiying the Constitution today, the Flemish and Belgian authorities send a strong signal that for them the Constitution is not dead and that Europe needs to implement the main improvements it would bring in order to function in the Union of 25,« ,« stated Pat Cox, the President of the European Movement International.
Mr Cox also welcomed the strong signal the Flemish Parliament gave by approving a resolution that calls for a permanent debate about Europe and the bigger involvement of the civil society in reaching out to the concerns and the worries of the ordinary people.
»The European Movement welcomes this initiative and offers itself as one of the partners in helping to implement this plan to structure a permanent debate. It is only by involving the ordinary citizen that we can breach the gap which too often is still seen to exist between the institutions and the citizen.«
»Europe is not for politicans only, it belongs to us all,« concluded Pat Cox.

Pat Cox: La Constitution à nouveau sur la table - la Belgique ratifie.
Le Parlement flamand a ratifié la Constitution européenne et inscrit donc la Belgique sur la liste des 14 pays qui ont achevé la ratification de la Constitution.
"En ratifiant la Constitution aujourd'hui, les autorités flamandes et belges envoient un signal fort et montrent que la Constitution n'est pas morte et que l'Europe a besoin d'appliquer les principaux éléments qui permettront d'améliorer le fonctionnement de l'Union à 25" a affirmé Pat Cox, Président du Mouvement Européen International.
M. Cox a également accueilli avec plaisir le signal fort que le Parlement flamand a donné en approuvant une résolution revendiquant un débat permanent sur l’Europe et une plus grande implication de la société civile dans les préoccupations et les craintes des citoyens ordinaires.
"Le Mouvement Européen est très heureux de cette initiative et se propose comme partenaire pour coopérer à l’exécution de ce plan en vue de structurer un débat permanent. Ce n’est qu’en impliquant les citoyens ordinaires que l’on peut refermer le fossé qui est encore trop souvent perçu entre les institutions et les citoyens."
"L’Europe n’est pas uniquement celle des hommes politiques, elle nous appartient à tous ", a conclu Pat Cox.

Pat Cox verwelkomt goedkeuring Europese Grondwet door het Vlaams Parlement
Door de stemming deze namiddag in het Vlaamse Parlement, vervoegt België als 14de lidstaat de groep van landen die »Ja« tegen de Europese Grondwet hebben gezegd.
»Door de Europese Grondwet vandaag goed te keuren, zenden Vlaanderen en België een sterk signaal dat de Grondwet voor hen niet dood is en dat Europa werk moet maken van de belangrijkste verbeteringen die in het document vooropgesteld werden. Een Unie van 25 zal anders niet kunnen krachtdadig optreden«, verklaarde Pat Cox, de voorzitter van de Internationale Europese Beweging.
Cox verheugde zich ook over het goedkeuren in het Vlaams Parlement van een resolutie, die oproept om werk te maken van een permanent debat over Europa. Vooral het betrekken van de organisaties uit het middenveld moet ertoe leiden dat ook de vragen die bij de man in de straat leven hierbij aan bod zullen komen.
»De Europese Beweging verwelkomt dit initiatief en reikt de hand om één van de partners te zijn die helpen een permanente dialoog rond het Europa van de toekomst uit te bouwen. Enkel als we de gewone burger terug bij Europa betrekken, kunnen we de kloof die gegroeid is tussen de instellingen en de bevolking terug dichten.«
»Europa is niet alleen een zaak van politici, het is van en voor ons allemaal«, besloot Cox.
